ORTHOPEDIC SURGERY ~ WHAT TO EXPECT?
Pre-operative blood work, IV fluids and anesthesia are mandatory on all orthopedic cases. A CBC and comprehensive health profile are performed to evaluate surgical or anesthetic risks and to detect any underlying health problems.
For procedures relating to fracture repair, intra and post operative radio graphs are evaluated for adequate reduction, proper placement of hardware, or proper angle of ostectomy.
All patients are evaluated and monitored closely post operative to ensure a smooth and pain free free recovery. Oral antibiotics, pain medications and NSAID therapy are sent home with each patient.
The rehabilitation process begins the day of surgery and continues for 12 weeks. Physical therapy is strongly advised after each orthopedic procedure as a part of the rehabilitation process. The staff at Parker Road Veterinary Hospital can skillfully perform the physical therapy that will speed recovery. If the owner chooses to perform physical therapy, an instructional, easy to follow book is sent home.
OUR GOAL IS TO RETURN OUR PATIENTS TO A HEALTHY, ACTIVE, PAIN FREE LIFE!
